This year… we’re fifteen!
Over our lifetime, we have seen unimaginable change in the tech sector and in the kind of work we create. Since 2000, we have evolved continuously in order to achieve our ambitions of creating a world-class digital portfolio, with creativity and technology always sitting at the heart of what we do.
So, we decided to celebrate our birthday by looking to the future of the digital industries. And what better way than by looking to the generation of talent who are also celebrating their fifteenth birthdays, to the people who have spent their ENTIRE life with the Internet and for whom digital devices are an everyday occurrence?
To do this, we’ve teamed up with UTC@MediaCityUK, a brand new college over at Salford Quays. Focused on future employability, UTC help students aged between 14-18 to develop professional digital and media skills as part of an academically rich curriculum, giving them hands-on, practical experience across their specialisms in TV & Film, Graphics & Design, Radio & Audio, and Interactive Media & Gaming.
Back in November, we headed over to UTC to brief the students on the mN anniversary competition. We asked them to work in groups to devise a creative idea that looks to the future of the digital industry and prepare a vision piece to bring their idea to life, ready to pitch to us in December. At the briefing the students were full of enthusiasm and we left feeling inspired, confident that we were going to get plenty of great ideas.
This week, we returned to the college to listen to the students’ pitches. A massive well done to everyone who took part – we were super impressed by all the hard work that each group put in and the standard was incredibly high across all 20+ pitches, making our jobs rather difficult!
We’re really excited to be working with UTC and hope that the anniversary project will mark the start of an on-going relationship with some of the best young minds in the biz. In February, we will be inviting shortlisted groups over to mN to pitch their ideas to the wider team. Check back in soon for news on the winning entry!
