movieNight is back. And he’s badder than ever. Sorry, that is actually a reference to an old Arnie Schwarzenegger film. What we meant to say is our very own series of film screenings ‘movieNight’ is back and better than ever with the next one confirmed to take place on Wednesday 11th June.
We’ll be showing ‘Sign Painters’ – a charming documentary that looks at the history and current revival of traditional sign painting.
The official blurb about the film is below and you can watch the trailer here.
There was a time, as recently as the 1980s, when storefronts, murals, banners, barn signs, billboards and even street signs were all hand-lettered with brush and paint. As with many skilled trades, the sign industry has been overrun by the techno-fuelled promise of quicker and cheaper. The resulting proliferation of computer-designed, die-cut vinyl lettering and inkjet printers has ushered a creeping sameness into our landscape. Fortunately, there is a growing trend to seek out traditional sign painters and a renaissance in the trade.
Like our first movieNight, the event is invite only but we’ll be giving away tickets on Twitter in the next few weeks. If you really, really, really want to come please drop us a line at movieNight@thisismN.com and we’ll see if we can sort you some tickets.
Don’t say we never give you anything!
